Thanks to several grants and numerous generous donors, we have been able to purchase state of the art equipment to use for this long-term project to study lichen and learn about our changing climate. We will use this equipment to monitor and track the lichens over time as well as set up experiments to learn what impacts the growth and health of lichen, mosses and cyanobacteria with the help of Dr. Anita Antoninka from the forestry department at NAU. By manipulating different variables in a lab situation and monitoring lichen along an elevation gradient, students will make a personal connection to the very important topic of climate change. Students will also create projects, such as iMovie and pic collage, to demonstrate understanding.
