Hello Readers!
I have been busy starting a new independent project. I would love to share it with you and I am positive it is WAY BETTER than my previous project. Read on to explore the glorious effects of natural remedies. IHello readers,
I am so sorry for not updating you for a while. I have been measuring the lichen samples in the student garden. it takes a lot of time! So please forgive me as I tell you all my problems. I recently went to Adam's lab where they work with leaf packs. Then, earlier I went to Dr. Anita Antoninka's lab where they work with biocrust. These labs are both located at NAU. What they study is very EXCITING, please read on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Adam is working with students at NPA as part of the GK-12 program at NAU. The GK-12 program is a program that matches graduate students like Adam to schools like ours to allow all participants to gain a better understanding of scientific research and how it affects our understanding of the world. Adam is joining Ms. Brown's class on Mondays. Adam has some really great stories about how he became interested in science and I REALLY wanted to share them with you.
I started an independent project on the importance of washing your hands. It kind of ties in with the lichen project because it involves mold.
Today in class we did a lab. This lab was to show what and how the Albedo Effect worked. The Albedo is just a fancy word for reflection. This lab was fairly easy and FUN!
In an earlier post I explained how the Greenhouse Effect works and how greenhouse gases contribute to Global Warming. In today's post I will explain a simple, yet fun experiment to learn how the Greenhouse Effect works.

I'm Lichen It!AuthorHello, I am Michal Swanson. I am a student at Northland Preparatory Academy and I will be blogging about the Lichen project our school is participating in to learn more about climate change over a period of 10 years. I am 13 years old. I transferred from BASIS last September. I LOVE the outdoors, gardening, reading, and science. My favorite color is GREEN. I want to become a biologist or ecologist when I grow up. Science is in my blood. My mother is a Chemist, my uncle a biologist, my aunt a nurse, and my great-grandmother an amazing gardener who can grow just about anything anywhere. I am really interested in microbiology. Last year I did an experiment for the science fair on how oregano oil kills bacteria . I would like to do an oregano oil 2.0 experiment on how oregano oil PREVENTS the growth of bacteria. Lichen is small and very interesting to me and I am ECSTATIC to be writing up posts to share this topic with you. Archives
